Chapter 8

Ryan

“You’re sure you don’t mind?”

I’d asked him the question enough times he groaned when it came out again. Dare was in the bathroom finishing up getting ready, so there was no reason to hold back. They both knew I was worried, but I didn’t want Dare to think I was trying to get out of our date, so I’d tried not to sound crazy in front of him.

Scott sighed and finally scooted closer and curled into me on the couch. “You’re insane.”

That didn’t mean I was wrong.

“And your point?”

“I’m going to have a quiet afternoon watching TV and probably fall asleep on the couch.” He smiled and his hand came over to start caressing down my thigh. “I might even order Chinese for dinner and eat all the dumplings without saving a single one.”

I laughed. “Greedy.”

“Yep, but I’m not going to feel guilty and neither are you.” He sat up a little and slowly leaned in to give me a gentle kiss.

We were still getting used to the idea that as boyfriends we could kiss and touch whenever we wanted, so my stomach whirled as he smiled when he pulled back. I loved seeing that look of surprised happiness on his face.

“You’re going to have a good time on your date with Dare, and when it’s my turn, you’re going to find something fun and relaxing to do while he and I go out.” Scott leaned in and gave me a quick peck. “We’re both going to have relationships with him that are separate from our relationship altogether.”

We both knew he was quoting Dare at that point.

I wrapped my arm around him and gave him a tight hug. “How’d you get so smart?”

Scott chuckled as Dare’s voice came from behind me. “Because he has a fabulously smart master and boyfriend.”

I glanced over my shoulder and gave Dare a sheepish look. “Hi.”

He shook his head and came around the side of the couch to plop down on Scott’s lap, draping his legs across mine. “Are you still worried?”

“Not exactly.” It just felt weirder than I’d expected leaving Scott.

He gave me a knowing smile and then leaned over for a quick kiss. “Does he look unhappy?”

“No.” Scott was grateful not to have to watch what he’d called another explosion movie.

“Then we’re not going to feel guilty or change our plans.” Dare smiled at Scott then kissed him gently. “We have to trust that if something is wrong he’ll tell us. He knows we’re not mind readers, so when he says he’s fine with us going out, we say thank you, baby and leave it at that.”

I took a deep breath. “You’re right.”

Scott grinned. “He’s our master. Of course he’s right. He’s also going to punish you if you worry all night and have a bad time.”

“He is?” One eyebrow went up, and Dare gave him a curious expression. “I think I might have to, then.”

Turning to me, he shook his head sadly, but the fire in his gaze said he wasn’t upset.
